The smaller assignments are designed to capture many of the historiographical lessons from the “Identity Assignment,” but do not require the completion of the larger project. Each assignment is meant to look more intensively at a specific issue related to completing historical projects. All of these guides are intended as suggestions. Feel free to adopt any of them to your own purposes. In some cases we have linked to other websites that have similar assignments and it may be useful to explore other archival collections.

Each assignment emphasizes “doing” and “thinking” history. For more information on the pedagogical philosophy behind these assignments have a look at our Pedagogical Philosophy section.
